Mock Trial Overview

Overall the mock trial we participated in class, I felt, was a success.  Although there were a few challenges this activity was able to put us in the shoes of different people in a courtroom situation.  I liked that not much information was given to us because it forced us to investigate, piecing together the facts of the case in order to create our argument.  This encouraged a sense of unity between each side, defense and prosecution, as we communicated with each other to get the desired information. I also liked creating different questions, especially for cross examination, because there are a lot of different ways one can approach questioning but it takes a lot to realize what the best way is.
Somethings I thought were difficult was questioning itself.  When asking questions in front of a jury or judge it is crucial that you know the reply that you are going to get otherwise you're left in an awkward situation.  Also it was hard because these witnesses are not real people.  Normally you could look further into a witness's past that might help discredit there story but in a mock trial you're very limited to the amount of information you're actually given.  In conclusion the mock trial was a great learning experience and was very enjoyable.
